"Bienvenida..."

Did you know last week was National Foreign Language Week?

Dylan is taking Spanish this year (7th grade Beginners Spanish). He had several projects to complete for NFLW. While doing so, we both learned so much about this week long celebration across the globe. Here is a bit of history on how National Foreign Language Week was started...

National Foreign Language Week was inaugurated in the Spring of 1957 by Alpha Mu Gamma. Sister Eloise Therese, the National President of Alpha Mu Gamma from 1956 to 1960, discovered that such a week had never been officially celebrated in the United States as a whole, although foreign language had receive recognition by different educational institutions at various periods of the academic year. Inspired by her the National Council of Alpha Mu Gamma began to formulate plans to make the United States aware of the need for and importance of foreign language study through the celebration of NFLW. On December 12, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent a telegram endorsing the celebration, and each succeeding president has added his support.

Can you speak a foreign language?

Here is Dylan proudly showing off his awards from NFLW. (funny: He is trying to be a funny guy by wearing his 'nerdy' 3D glasses...ha!)

His poster that won 1st place! (Boys in their handwriting!)

He won 3rd place for participating in the Spanish Word Bee.

He won 3rd place for his Spanish Couscous with Chorizo.

Check out this delicious dish he made...

  1. I think it would be nice if we all spoke another language. I think we should start teaching a second language at a much younger age, it is easier for kids to learn. Thanks for stopping by I'm now following you, Laura

  2. I totally agree, Laura! Dylan has been learning Spanish and German since he was preschool. Payton started learning sign language at 9months and Spanish in Preschool. It is amazing how much and how fast they have learned.

Thanks for following back! Looking forward to following your posts. Love your blog! :)
