"Oh, the THINKS you Can Think..."

Did you know today is the birthday of Dr. Seuss? The famous children's book author born, Theodor Seuss Geisel in 1904. With his wild imagination and wit he produced over 60 children's books before he passed away in 1991. As a child I loved to read about the wonderful characters that were full of surprises in the Dr. Seuss books.

"A person's a person, no matter how small"

I still have my books.

Want to know some fun facts about Dr. Seuss?
  • What was Dr. Seuss's last published book? - Oh, the places you'll go! Published in 1990, one year before he passed in September 24, 1991 an spent over a year on the New York Times Best Seller list as a farewell to his audience.
  • Which Dr. Seuss book bares the warning 'Take it slowly...this book is dangerous'? - 'Fox in Socks'. Labelled as a 'tongue twister for super children'. It was published in 1965.
  • How did he pen the name Dr. Seuss? - Seuss is his middle name and he put Dr. in front because his father had always wanted him to be a doctor.
  • What college did he graduate from? - He graduated Dartmouth College in 1925, and proceeded on to Oxford University with the intent of acquiring a doctorate in literature. (This one is for my dear friends Jake and Sarah in Oxford, England)
  • How many different words were used in 'Green Eggs and Ham'? - 50! In 1960, a gentleman by the name of Bennett Cerf bet Theodor that he couldn't write a book using only 50 words. He then wrote "Green Eggs and Ham".

Dylan and Payton both love to read Dr. Seuss books. I passed my books down to Dylan, and then he passed down both mine and his Dr. Seuss books to Payton.

"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself, any direction you choose."

Do you have a favorite Dr. Seuss book?

This is mine.

"Today you are You, that is Truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than YOU."

The kids and I celebrated Dr. Seuss's birthday by coloring some of our favorite characters.

...and then we went to see 'The Lorax' movie...

It was such a good terrific movie!

But the book is even better...

Dear readers you ask, what is 'The Lorax' really about? Well, let me fill you in.

It's about trees.

"He snapped, I'm the Lorax who speaks for the trees, which you seem to be chopping as fast as you please." "The Lorax" was originally released in the U.S. on August 12, 1971. The book and movie talk about the importance of trees and what they do for us and our Earth.

If you were the Lorax, what would you do to help our Earth?

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's Not!" - The Lorax
